HOW TO GROW AND MAINTAIN YOUR ORCHID
To enjoy many seasons of orchid flowering, follow these general care tips. Paul and Lisa would be delighted to help you out with any other queries you may have regarding the care of your orchid.
LIGHT
Light is the most important factor when it comes to general orchid care!
Too much sun will cause the leaves to burn while too little sun will reduce flowering. Dappled light will give the best results.
The colour of the leaves will be able to indicate whether your orchid is receiving too much/not enough light. Reddish green leaves tells us that the orchid is getting too much light, whereas a dark green leaf means the orchid is not getting enough light.
WATERING
Orchids should not be allowed to dry, but they are not able to stay in a wet and soggy environment.
You should only need to water your orchids once every week or so whilst taking into consideration the weather.
Humidity can dry your orchids out, so keep an eye out for the orchids.
The best way to find out if your orchid needs watering, is by placing your finger in the soil and feeling it. If the soil is wet, you do not need to water. If the soil is feeling dry, then you should water your orchid.
Overwatering is quite a common cause of dying orchids. Be careful.
FEEDING
Use orchid food that is formulated for orchids and follow the instructions on the label.
Generally, most fertilisers will recommend to feed your orchid once a month. It is important to follow the label's instructions because less frequent fertilising can stunt growth and inhibit flowering and too frequent fertilising can burn the roots/leaves and inhibit flowering.
